The Indies: An Animated Short

Created by Blue Geek Music

The Indies: An Animated Short is a Hip-Hop animation project from DJ Tony Drake and Blue Geek Music. With help from our backers, we were able to raise over $50,000 to bring this project to life. We plan on using this short to show Hollywood that we want to see this turned into a full length series! Latest Updates from Our Project:

New Television Licensing Deal
over 4 years ago – Sat, Aug 10, 2019 at 05:39:55 PM

Hey Everyone,

During the past nine months that The Indies: An Animated Short has been available, I've been doing a ton of BTS work talking to studios and entering the film into festivals.  It's always been well received and as most of you know, been winning multiple awards (which is crazy!!!).  It's been so well received that now I can share some incredible news with all of you....

We just signed our first cable television deal with REVOLT TV!!!  REVOLT TV believes in The Indies: An Animated Short enough that they are going to include it on their show Short & Fresh premiering August 23rd at 10PM EST.  After that it will be available via your cable provider's Video on Demand feature.  For those of you that aren't familiar with REVOLT TV, it's a cable network owned by Diddy aka Sean Combs.  This is a huge opportunity for us because this channel is available in over 50 million homes.  Depending on the reception, this could lead to more opportunities for more animated content on the network (not just for us, but all animation creators).

If you don't have a cable package with REVOLT TV, no worries, you'll still be able to watch the short online at https://youtu.be/ykwgAiHq4PI.  But if you know someone that does have cable, please tell them to tune in so we can show Hollywood that we want to see more shows like The Indies: An Animated Short on television.  As always thank you for your support.  It means the world to me.  Now let's go get that full length series!!!

Film Festival Updates
almost 5 years ago – Sun, May 19, 2019 at 11:12:31 PM

Hey Everyone!

Just wanted to send out a quick update to let everyone know that we're still at it.  Not only have we been participating in film festivals and comic conventions, but now we're starting to win awards!  Shoutout to all the crew for working so hard on this animation.  And thank you to each and every one of you for believing in the vision and supporting us.  These are your awards as much as they are ours.  There's a lot more to come, so make sure you're following everything on Instagram and Facebook.  Thanks again for everything!

New Indies Merch and Phoenix Film Festival Updates
about 5 years ago – Wed, Feb 06, 2019 at 07:56:45 AM

Hey Everyone,

I try to not flood your inbox with a lot of updates, but things are really picking up for The Indies.  The first thing is that we have some new merch for sale on our website!  You can now order T-shirts and posters over at https://bluegeekmusic.com/shop.  The shirts are the same ones that our crew has been wearing to all of the screenings.

I'm also happy to say that we have multiple screenings across the United States over the next couple of months.  The Indies: An Animated Short is being shown with a bunch of other great films, so if you're in the area on these dates you should definitely come out:

  • 16-17 February - Long Beach Comic Expo - Long Beach, California
  • 2-3 March - Comic Con Revolution - Palm Beach, Florida
  • 4-14 April - Phoenix Film Festival - Phoenix, Arizona

Getting the notification that we got into the Phoenix Film Festival was pretty mind blowing  The festival is the biggest film festival in Arizona with over 27,000 people attending annually.  This is an unbelievably great opportunity to get our film in front of more people (not to mention I think we have a good chance of winning some awards).  But in order for us to participate in the festival we unfortunately cannot have the film available for public online viewing.  I made a promise to all of the backers that the film would always be available and I intend to keep my promise to the best of my ability.  I spoke with the film festival, and I think we were able to come up with a solution where everyone is satisfied.  We're going to take down the YouTube video until after the film festival.  But you will be able to watch the short on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/289976718) if you use The!nd!es18 as the password.  When the festival is completely over on April 22nd, the film will go back to being public.  If anyone has any issues with this please don't hesitate to get in contact with me.  All of you have been amazing throughout this entire process, so I want to make sure all of you feel good about what's going on.

Thank you once again for everything. If you have any questions about anything please feel free to reach out.  And as always, stay dope!

2019 Festival Updates
about 5 years ago – Sun, Jan 20, 2019 at 06:13:46 PM

Hey Everyone!

Hope 2019 is treating you well.  The Indies: An Animated Short is officially out in the world and it's been doing great so far!  Not only has the short been getting a good response online, but it's also being well received on the film festival circuit.  The short has only been out for two months and we've already been able to screen the film in DC, California, and North Carolina.  And after this upcoming weekend (24-27 January) we can add Texas to the list of states because we'll be screening the film at the Denton Black Film Festival in Denton, TX.  I'll be traveling to Texas to do a Q&A at the film festival, so if you're in the area be sure to come out.  You can purchase your tickets here.

And continuing with all the good film festival news....OUR FILM IS GOING TO BE GOING ON TOUR!!!  That’s right! The Indies: An Animated Short is an official selection in the Geekfest Film Festival.  That means our film will be traveling across the country (with some possible international stops) to some of your favorite comic conventions.  As someone who loves comic cons and the culture around them, this is a huge deal to me.  As soon as the tour dates are finalized I'll be sure to send them out.

As you can see, there's a ton of great stuff going on and I appreciate each and every one of you showing your support.  For those of you that haven't yet been able to attend a live screening, be sure to check out the below video of our advanced screening we hosted.  Thanks once again for everything, and stay dope!
